Menehune Mentorship: a student-centered community

Navigating the college admissions, medical school admissions, financial aid system, or post-grad career portals can be tough!

But you don’t have to do it alone.

I’ve been incredibly honored throughout my time at Stanford and Kenya, and currently as a medical student at Stanford (again), to have been approached by students and parents seeking advice and mentorship for college, healthcare field, and medical school readiness. I have experience as a Stanford undergraduate student, public health worker for both a rural NGO and urban social enterprise in Kenya, current Stanford medical student, and past undergraduate application seasonal reader for the Stanford Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Because of the high volume of requests I have received, I realized that what students, parents, and teachers need is not only advising and counseling, but also a student-centric community of supporters and advocates of passion, vocation, and “right fit” rather than standardized test scores, resumé bullet points, and prestige. In 2019, I started the Menehune Mentorship Program to provide students and their families/teachers with just this. The Menehune was my high school’s mascot, so the program’s name is a tribute to the small town community that raised me.

In addition to one (or more) of the services in the dropdown menu provided in the form below, I write a bi-monthly (twice a month, not every two months, I get confused about this word sometimes) newsletter that I send to the students and parents/caregivers/teachers enrolled in my Menehune Mentorship Program. The newsletter includes relevant college and medical school testing and application deadlines, opportunities for scholarships, volunteerism, and career-oriented programs, the latest in higher education news, and my own personal reflections on college, careers, and healthcare/medical-related fields. My parents, who are immigrants from the Philippines and had to learn how to navigate the United States higher education system when it came to me applying for college from scratch, write a “Piece for Parents” section in this newsletter as well. Additionally, I provide all program enrollees with a community-building online spaces so that they can connect and support each other throughout whatever life stage they are currently in.

Please fill out the no-commitment interest-only form below if you are interested being a part of my mentorship program, or if you are interested about this program for your child, student, or friend! You will receive a reply in 5 or fewer business days.
